Pop-up Sads

I don't really know how, in 2010, pop-up ads are still something we - as an evolved human race that can take, e-mail and then tweet photos with our phones - have to deal with. Alas, such is life, and recently I discovered this gem hiding underneath my browser window, which was filled with tabs researching mandrake roots, Nelly and probably hipsters.

Now, why would I want to do crazy things like "click here" and "find out what my credit score is" if you're telling me ahead of time that it's going to suck? If you're already frowning about my unknown credit score, mysterious Internet digitized creatures, then how do you think it's going to make me feel?

The most ironic thing is that I don't even know if I have a credit score or not, because I've never actually owned a credit card. One time I applied for one through my bank and got a big fat rejection letter in the mail, which caused a real life (RL) frowny face, not unlike this.

Now I ask you, dear readers: how could anyone deny that face a credit card, or really anything else? I mean honestly. Look at that punum. No, you know what? No. No. Talking about this just makes me very angry.

I would be so fucking good at using a credit card.  The bank people don't even know how good I would be. Mostly because even I don't know how good I would be. My credit score would probably be "awesome." No numbers needed. It would just say "awesome."

Yeah, fuck that bank. And even more broadly, fuck being an adult, which is a state of existence requiring that I acquire a credit card, and makes me feel begrudgingly incompetent for not having one.

  1. Credit cards are pretty evil. Actually it's the credit card companies that are evil, but if you ever want to own a home, you gotta know your credit! Oh and use Firefox/AdBlockPlus/NoScript for no pop ups. Haven't had one in forever.

And technically it's a pop under if it's under your browser, haha I'm a dork so what?

  2. Having credit cards are HIGHLY overrated! I've had 2 and it's not as much fun as one might think... especially when the bills start rolling in...

  3. I don't know if sadface or bird-flipping is more charming.

    I'm torn.

  4. Don't be sad. Not having a credit card is no big deal. Your credit score is actually affected by the way you pay your bills as well. Like your cell phone bill or utilities. So, you may have "awesome" for a score and not even know it!

  5. Ugh, credit scores be gone. GONE, I SAY! It takes one bad month to fuck up your score and 7 years to correct the mistake. Where's the justice in that?

  6. Ehh...I have two somehow and I am very bad at using them.
Or should I say I am very ... free? with them?

  7. I like credit cards. I got one when I studied abroad because apparently Capital One (who is really evil and will approve anyone, and then call you asking if you'll help them fight stricter credit card legislation, and refuse me credit line increases when my other bank would give me all the money I want ever - longest parentheses ever) doesn't charge 3% to convert your money from euros. But then I got another one with fancy points and such. They're actually kinda useless, those points. But I like delaying the payment from my real money accounts. But I pay that sucker off religiously, like weekly. No debt, yo. Not even tempted. I stick by my parents' mantra of who cares what your interest is? Interest is for suckers.

  8. I really, REALLY enjoy reading your blog. I myself am 25 and have had 6 credit cards. It took me becoming an adult to realize that if you don't pay on time, it could be bad news mcgrews. Ever since I turned 21 (yes, I had that many credit cards before I was of legal age to drink), I realized that I probably could have done without some snazzy shirt and sweaters and other random items I purchased with said credit cards....

Oh wait, who am I kidding? No I couldn't have.

Even though it is my fault that I accumulated debt (which, thank God, is almost gone) I still also frequently flick off the credit card companies. Damn them for producing little shiny plastic cards that draw my ADHD attention every time with the prospect of new shit.

  11. Isn't 780 a good credit score? Why the frownaise, internet face?

I didn't have a credit card until I was like 25. Then I moved to LA and completely maxed it out like an idiot. Now I will be paying it back for years. So yeah...not having one isn't ALL bad.

Oh and I like your zebra scarf.
